CLIMATE OF KARACHI,SINDH

Karachi lies in the arid climate.Karachi lies in the coast and enjoys fresh sea breeze sometime during hot months such as may and June whereas other parts of Sindh remains under impact of deadly heatwave.Sometimes,due to some factors like tropical cyclone alters the direction of sea breeze causing a temporary heatwave there but April,May and June are considered as hottest months there.Karachi mainly receives less rains during the months of monsoon and the cause is inversion layer that surrounds the city during most time of years until any monsoonal low or weather disturbance I.e western disturbance breaks that inversion layer.

There are two factors that alters the weather over Karachi.

•Western disturbance
•Tropical cyclones
•Monsoon
•Local heat convection

•Western Disturbances:-
Western disturbances are common to  invade the city during winter season and cause rain of varying intensity (depending upon conditions and intensity of western disturbance).They occur rarely during April to June.

•Tropical cyclones:-
Tropical cyclones forms in Arabian sea during pre Monsoon and post monsoon (during May to June) and September/October respectively. They can alter weather such as deadly heatwave (if its direction is away from the city it cuts off the sea wind causing temperature to increase) and deadly storm with torrential downpours.

•Southwest Monsoon:-
Southwest monsoon season start from June and lasts till 15 September. During this period,monsoon break takes a long time.Monsoon rain is usually heavy by nature which cause flash flooding in Karachi.In 2017,Karachi suffered from a deadly and explosive thunderstorm on 22 August 2017 with intermittent rain spells.

•Local heat Convection:-
It is usually rare in Karachi but do occur in very rare cases because usually inversion layer inhibits it but sometimes when sun heating is on peak and inversion layer could be broken subsequently resulting in a thunderclouds development which we call as local development or local heat convection release.
